Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH) is the nodal Ministry for setting up and implementing technical regulations for the Automotive Industry through the Central Motor Vehicle Act and Rules. The Ministry lays down the requirements for homologation of vehicles. MORTH is also the nodal Ministry for activities relating to global harmonization of automotive regulations The Ministry has chalked out a Road Map for implementation of regulations which provides the basis for planning the infrastructure to be developed under NATRIP. MORTH has been closely and continuously associated with NATRIP planning and development. The Ministry is also actively involved in the project implementation. Joint Secretary Transport, MORTH represents the Ministry in Governing Council of NATIS.
